Brief History

On 10th May 2008, a group of English teachers seeking improvement in the quality of English teaching in Demak met at the old building of MAN Demak. They established an association for English teachers in Demak called ETA (English Teacher Association). This was based upon a thought that  teachers’ quality of English teaching and students’  achievement of English language subjects in the town  in general are still poor.

The goal of this association is to provide an effective direction to the English teaching community at all levels particularly at the grassroots through its various programmes of English teaching development, and to develop students’  achievement of English language subject in Demak regency.

On 11th May 2008, this association was officially registered in the notary office of Anisah SH. Soon after the association was founded, it conducted several activities. Most importantly, it arranged several workshops and education and training especially for its members, and wrote English teaching books such as Bridge to English Competence for SMA/MA, Jembatan Sukses Ujian Nasional, Mengenal Genre dalam Bahasa Inggris, and Bridge to Success, Preparation for National Examination (UN).

Change of the name of ETA to DETA occurred when most of members wished the change. They argued the new name can distinguish it from other regencies and also in accordance with its vision, that is, promoting English teaching, learning and research in Demak regency.

At the next meeting, Sunday, 22 November 2009, ETA held a coordination meeting at the secretariat office of ETA, MAN Demak. One of the agendas carried in the meeting was the change of the name of ETA to DETA. All the participants of the meeting agreed to the new name.

Hopefully after this name change, DETA is more and more advanced and can give better impacts and beneficial for English teaching community, especially in Demak regency.
